Gardner Brant (ガードナー・ブラント?) is the guardian and master of the Gemini siblings. He is one of the most prolific Force Scholars on Berge, and is also a Hexyz.

Personality[]

As a Force Scholar, Gardner is one of the most proficient in the study of Force and history of Berge. With a natural talent of pursuing knowledge, Gardner tends to lose track when talking about Force and Berge. He rambled on when explaining things to Levant, Irene, and Griek so much so that he spoke way too fast for them to understand.

Contrary to his nature as a Scholar, Gardner knows his limitations. He knows when their work becomes too inhumane, and is better off not meddling with the balance of life. When he retired from being a Force Scholar and a ultimately, a Hexyz, he lived in a peaceful life in Lake Soleil. This attributes to his physique, and Sister Elda commenting his resemblance to a bear, as he became the father-figure of Rafael and Luffina Gemini.

Story[]

Time in Ravena Castle[]

Gardner is a Force Scholar whose skills rival even that of Faust Schneizel. Years ago, they worked together as a Force Scholar in Ravena Castle. Together, they researched on the Forbidden Art of Rivelias using the Ragnafact book Necrozauwar, owned by Rivelias the Blissful. During his time in Ravena Castle, he also became acquainted with Therese Armaclite, Cecilia's mother.

During their research, Gardner saw the immense capabilities of the Forbidden Art, such as manipulation of the Force inside living things, as well as implanting Force on non-living things. Ten years ago, Levant fell down from a high place in Rosenbaum, as Irene wanted to see the view from up high. The damage was too severe, but his body was able to survive thanks to the unknown fact that Levant was a Hexyz. It is unknown if Faust realized Levant was a Hexyz, but together with Gardner, the two Force Scholars used the Forbidden Art of Rivelias to insert multiple Forces in Levant's body. This ranged from monsters, humans, and non-humans. Thanks to this, Levant was able to live. According to Gardner ten years later, this was among the number of sins he committed in the past, perhaps due to the fact that some innocent lives (both humans and non-humans) had to be taken forcefully in order to keep Levant alive

Gardner saw this capability of the Forbidden Art as something too dangerous, inhumane, and immoral for mortals to experiment on. However, Faust saw it differently, as he used the Forbidden Art to continue on the experimentation with no regard to life. During this time, an accident occurs during one of their experiments that disabled Gardner from using his Ragnafact. Ultimately, Gardner takes the Necrozauwar and hides it inside the Sealed Library, keeping it away from Faust and anyone who would dare to use the book.

Since then, Gardner lived a life in seclusion in Lake Soleil. Somewhere around this time, he adopts the siblings Rafael and Luffina Gemini and becomes their guardian and master.

Meeting Cecilia Armaclite and Levant Von Schweitzer[]

Luffina alerts Gardner of the arrival of her brother, along with a woman. When Rafael arrived, he introduces Cecilia to his master, wherein the cleric hands over a letter from Sister Elda. Gardner recognizes the letter from his friend, and helps Cecilia to the Nervel Monolith. When they arrive, the Monolith was still safe. Gardner informs them of the Creation Story upon Cecilia's curiosity on the mural behind the Monolith. Suddenly, Shades attacked them and defeats them easily. Faust Schneizel appears, and recognizes Gardner right away. Faust demands Gardner to hand over the book, but Gardner declines. Faust incapacitates them all, destroys the Monolith, and asks Gardner one more time. Gardner still declines, and this time, Faust kidnaps Luffina.

Cecilia and Rafael is a little enraged over the fact that Gardner prefers the book than the life of Luffina. Gardner apologizes and explains his decision, and instructs the two to go hunt down Faust and save Luffina. Later on, Levant, Irene, and Griek arrives at his home, not knowing that Faust was inside the house. Levant and Gardner becomes acquianted with one another, as they ask Gardner to translate the book Griek had found in the Sealed Library. Gardner lies to them, telling Levant that he doesn't know who Faust is. After his work, Gardner instructs them to head over the Dragon's Abyss where a Stigald Fragment was mentioned to be hidden.

Necrozauwar is Taken[]

Cecilia, Rafael, and Ignus takes the unconscious Luffina to Gardner. Gardner takes them to his Nervel laboratory wherein he subjects Luffina into his machine to stave off the Destruction Force Faust inserted in her. The three of them insisted aggressively until Gardner caves in to assist them in retrieving Necrozauwar from the Sealed Library. They venture out with Gardner and successfully retrieves the book, and uses it to save Luffina. Cecilia and her team pushes on with their mission while Gardner stayed behind in his home.

Later on, Faust finally confronts Gardner with his Shades. Luckily, Levant and his team arrive and managed to save Gardner. They rush to the Nervel Laboratory, and found Faust had taken the book. Gardner reveals his true relation with Faust, and goes with Levant to Ravena Castle. After much exploring, they reach Faust's hidden laboratory and defeated the Force Scholar. However, Faust began to manipulate the forces inside Levant--the very same number of Forces they implanted on him ten years ago. The forces took over Levant and became Faust's puppet. Levant gives the Stigald Fragments to Faust, and he was defeated by Griek and Irene. The two then clashed against Faust and defeated the Force Scholar. Just as Faust was about to leave via teleportation, Gardner uses a spell he prepared to stop Faust from leaving. In doing so, Gardner was able to take the Necrozauwar from Faust. Faust escapes, leaving the unconscious Levant.

They take Levant back to the Nervel Laboratory wherein Gardner uses the Forbidden Art to once again push the Forces away, and allow Levant to return. Gardner gives the Necrozauwar to Levant, but warns him that he should lay down his sword in fear that he will lose control in the future.

Ending[]

!! SPOILER ALERT !!

In both Creation and Destruction Ending, Gardner witnesses the artificial reactor in the Nervel Monolith to become activated. When Delgaia awoke, he was one of the living beings who were engulfed by the Black Precipice, presumably killing him. However, in the Creation Ending, Gardner lives after defeated Delgaia and Galiza, and continues to live with Luffina and Rafael Gemini.

As for the Neutral Ending, it is unknown if Gardner lived after the battle with Force Necrious.

Notes[]

  • Gardner is probably the inheritor of the Hexyz Rivelias, and that his Ragnafact was the Necrozauwar. Though Gardner can still use Necrozauwar (as seen in healing Luffina and Levant), he is unable to summon it at will much like the other Hexyz. It is probably caused by the accident during one of their experimentations of the Forbidden Art.
  • It can be theorized that the reason Gardner adopted the Gemini siblings is because their parents were among those killed by Azul when he attacked Ravena Castle during Azul's quest on taking the Force Crystal from Therese Armaclite.
  • When Gardner stopped Faust from teleporting, he only took the Necrozauwar from Faust. Fans noted that Gardner could've also taken the Stigald Fragments, but perhaps it is due to the fact that defeating Dark Sage Faust at Phase 7 was the requirement in getting the Neutral Ending.
